Intuitive Economics Advises on the Largest Retail Transaction in Romania

Economic analysis support for the Ahold Delhaize / Mega Image acquisition of Profi

Intuitive Economics was part of the advisory team that assisted Ahold Delhaize “The Lion” Nederland and Mega Image in the acquisition of Profi, the largest and most complex transaction in the retail sector in Romania.

The project, of unprecedented scope and level of detail, including from a European perspective, involved complex and innovative economic analyses, the development of new evaluation methodologies, and the implementation of automated processes at a scale not previously seen in the industry. Our team built dedicated economic analysis tools and methodologies adapted to the size and complexity of this transaction, working alongside an exceptional team of competition lawyers.

The integration of economic analysis into the legal strategy was made possible by the dedication and multidisciplinary expertise of the competition team at GNP – Guia Naghi and Partners, under the coordination of Manuela Guia, Managing Partner. We also acknowledge the promptness and rigorous approach of the Competition Council team, which demonstrated remarkable involvement in managing a file of such complexity, setting a new standard for merger assessments in Romania.

This project represents a milestone for the firm. It confirmed that the combination of rigorous economic analysis, technological innovation, and close collaboration with legal teams can meet the standards demanded by the most complex competition cases.

Intuitive Economics thanks the Ahold Delhaize Group and Mega Image for their trust, and our partners at GNP – Guia Naghi and Partners for the valuable collaboration throughout this project.
